In 2018, our founder watched her aunt — a Bronx home-health aide, a citizen, a U.S. Army veteran's widow — spend six weeks bouncing between NY State of Health, a federal call center, and three brokers who didn't understand the Essential Plan. By the time she enrolled, she'd been hospitalized for an asthma flare-up that her medication would have prevented.
That hospital bill — $8,400 in a system that offered her near-zero-premium coverage the entire time — is the reason we exist. New York has the most generous and the most complicated marketplace in the country. We built a navigator portal that finally treats those two facts as inseparable.
